Wisp Puts Another Round of Snowmaking Into Little Dipper
Twelve new TechnoAlpin TL8 stick guns, a 700-foot water line, Lower Wisp pipe work, a new lake pump, and Chair 4 tower replacements headline the Maryland hill’s 2026–27 upgrades page.
McHENRY, Md. — Wisp Resort’s official upgrades page for the 2026–27 winter season starts where Mid-Atlantic skiers notice first: snowmaking. Building on a summer 2025 investment of 28 new snow guns, the Deep Creek hill says it is adding another major round of snowmaking work before winter.
The centerpiece is Little Dipper. Wisp lists two new 20-foot permanent TechnoAlpin TL8 stick guns and ten new 30-foot permanent TL8 stick guns, plus upgraded snowmaking infrastructure on the trail. The page says those 12 permanent guns will let eight portable snow guns move to other key areas across the mountain, and it frames the payoff as faster openings, better early-season skiing and riding, deeper base, and more consistent coverage on North Camp terrain.
Behind the sticks is pipe and pump work. A new 700-foot, 24-inch snowmaking pipeline is going in between a snowmaking pond and The Pumphouse. On Lower Wisp Trail, about 800 feet of snowmaking pipe is being replaced, with lateral pipes and five snowmaking hydrants in that same project. A new lake pump is being added so more water can move from Deep Creek Lake when conditions are right for snowmaking.
Lift work sits next to the snowmaking list. On Chair 4 on the East Ridge, Towers 3 and 6 are being replaced as part of annual routine lift maintenance. Upper bull wheels on lifts 2 and 3 are also getting upgrades.
