Bryce sits in Basye, Shenandoah County, west of I-81. It has been a family hill since 1965. The Horst Locher ski school is the reputation; the Copper Kettle and Carter’s Hütte are the après. This is not Massanutten’s water-park resort and it is not Wintergreen’s ridge village.
The alpine map is small on purpose: eight trails, about 500 feet, summit 1,750, base 1,250. Four lifts. The mix is beginner- and intermediate-heavy. Night skiing covers most of the hill. Thunder Jug is the park. Tubing has its own carpet. Snowmaking is the season — natural totals here are thin.
Indy is two days, which matches a Northern Virginia or Harrisonburg weekend. Massanutten is the other Shenandoah night-ski option with more amenities. Wintergreen is the Blue Ridge alternative. Projected opening this year is December 9.
