Winterplace’s argument is the interstate. Exit 28, five minutes, lodge parking — no 219 last hour. Independent since 1983, Flat Top / Ghent, Raleigh County. If you live on I-77 south of Charleston, this is the hill you can actually reach after work.
The map is 90 acres and about 28 slopes plus two parks. Vertical is 603 feet; the summit is 3,600. Nine lifts: two quads, three triples, two doubles, two carpets. Longest run is Panorama, a mile and a quarter of intermediate. Snowmaking covers the whole hill, which matters — natural totals here are the thin Mid-Atlantic number, not Canaan’s.
Lights are the other product. Night skiing runs on 26 slopes, the park, and the tube park; Tuesday and Wednesday stay dark outside holidays, and Turkey Chute is a day-only trail. Tubing is up to fourteen lanes, two carpets, the largest park in the state. Indy is two days. Season is usually early December through mid-March.

Access and lights. Five minutes off I-77 Exit 28, 100% snowmaking, night skiing on 26 slopes, and the largest tube park in West Virginia. The learn-to-ski reputation is the other half — this is not a 1,500-foot destination mountain.
28 slopes, two parks, 90 acres, 603 feet of vertical. Summit 3,600, base about 3,000. Nine lifts. Panorama is the long intermediate. The mix leans beginner and intermediate; there is enough black to keep a stronger skier busy for a day, not a week.
425 Winterplace Drive, Ghent, WV 25843. I-77 Exit 28 (Ghent / Flat Top). Charleston is the short West Virginia drive. Charlotte is the Saturday market. Raleigh, Columbia, Greensboro, and Roanoke are the other metro corridors.
Snowshoe if you want 1,500 feet, a village, and Ikon unlimited. Winterplace if you want the interstate, lights, tubing, and an Indy weekend without the last hour on 219. They are complementary. Canaan is the other WV Indy hill — higher, snowier, farther from I-77.
