Full seasonSnowshoe sits in the Allegheny highlands of Pocahontas County — three distinct ski areas (Snowshoe Basin, Silver Creek, and Western Territory) spread across 250 acres with terrain from green cruisers to black diamonds and glades. Heavy snowmaking and the elevation keep the Mid-Atlantic season reliable from late November through early April.
Drive times from Washington D.C. (~4.5 hours), Pittsburgh (~3.5 hours), Charlotte (~4 hours), and Richmond (~3.5 hours) put Snowshoe in weekend-trip range for much of the East Coast. It is the farthest major hill from Richmond on MTNinfo, but the closest full-scale destination for Ikon holders who want vertical without flying west.
Most visitors stay in the village — condos, lodges, and slope-side rentals clustered around the lifts, with more cabins and homes spread across the surrounding Pocahontas County highlands. Ownership is a mix of individual owners and local property managers, so inventory and rates vary from unit to unit. MTNinfo does not book stays. Snowshoe Basin is the main pod — most of the trail count and the village base. Silver Creek is a separate area with its own lifts and a more local feel. Western Territory holds the steepest pitch (Cupp Run and Shay's Revenge) when conditions allow. Beginners and intermediates have plenty of groomed mileage; experts chase the western face and tree runs after fresh snow.
